IPL - Intense Pulsed Light Photo Rejuvenation
Be comfortable in your own skin
IPL Photo Rejuvenation uses intense pulse light technology, which is a superb advancement in skin rejuvenation. Many Dermatologists and skin care specialists, believe that IPL treatments are the present and future of successful long term rejuvenation.
Pigmentation and blood vessels develop on the skin due to many causes including sun damage, rosacea, pregnancy, aging and genetics. This can produce freckles, skin discolouration, unsightly small veins and other blemishes. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is an ideal way of safely treating these problems with a minimum of downtime. The success of the IPL depends on 1) correctly diagnosing the problem and eliminating the cause if possible; 2) using the best and most effective equipment 3) the skill of the treating technician and doctor.
In North America, 70 million people have an undesirable amount of facial flushing. Capillaries dilate and some people have acne breakouts. Remarkable improvements have been seen with 4-5 treatments.
CosMedix MD has introduced Levulan™ into our treatment options for facial rejuvenations and repair. This revolutionary preparation combined with IPL light allows for deeper, faster and more thorough removal of brown marks, blood vessels and acne lesions.
IPL and Photo Rejuventaion Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
High intensity computer controlled pulses of light pentrate the skin and heat the sub-surface layers. The heating action damages or destroys the problem condition while stimulating collagen.
What can it do for me?
Calm rosacea, tighten pores, reverse sun damage and rough skin, clear red lines and brown spots, decrease fine lines, refine mottled skin texture, and improve shallow acne scars.
What areas can be treated with IPL Photo Rejuvenation?
IPL can be used on your face, neck, hands, legs and virtually anywhere sun damage appears.
How many treatments will I need?
Depending on the type and severity of the problem, a series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended.
When will I see the results?
Clients usually notice some improvement after every session and there should be a substantial improvement after the end of the series of sessions recommended.
What is an IPL procedure like?
A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and you may be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the IPL hand piece is gently placed on the appropriate skin area and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a light sting like the snapping of a small rubber band. An anesthetic cream may be used, but is seldom required. Each treatment takes about 20-40 minutes. There can be some redness or puffiness which disappears from 1-2 hours post treatment but can last a day or two. Most clients have no problem resuming activities right away. Sun damaged areas will darken at first and slough off over the days to follow.
Many salons and aestheticians offer IPL, what is the difference between CosMedix MD and these centers?
CosMedix MD offers a number of procedures to treat damaged skin and will use the technique that is best for your skin. The various lasers are very expensive and most businesses do not have as wide a variety or as current techniques as are available at CosMedix MD. The less expensive IPL machines are generally not as effective for treating vascular problems (blood vessels, rosacea and pinkness).
What is the IPL in combination with Levulan™ procedure like?
This is called the "Levulan™ Boost" for IPL. Levulan is applied to the damaged skin for about one hour prior to having IPL treatment. This results in about 2-3 days of redness, scaling and slight swelling of the treated area. Sunlight (even through window) must be avoided for two days after application in order to prevent a severe sunburn-like reaction. The skin then sheds the sun-damaged areas, leaving fresher, smoother, evener textured skin.
