Frequently Asked Questions

What areas can be treated by Fraxel?
Fraxel can be used on your face, neck, chest and hands.

When will I see results?
Over the following weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues that have been affected by the treatment, producing beneficial changes that continue to improve over the next 2-3 months.

How many treatments will I need?
Dr. Goldhar will personalize a program for your particular needs. Each fraxel treatment targets between 20 to 25% of the skin's surface. On average an effective treatment regimen is 3-5 sessions spaced about 2-4 weeks apart.

What is a Fraxel treatment like?
The treatment area will be thoroughly cleansed prior to the procedure. Next, topical anesthesia is applied and then wiped off after it has taken effect, usually in about ½ hour. Often a mild hypnotic will be given. OptiGuide Blue, a water-soluble  tint, is applied to the treatment area to highlight the contours of the skin. This is washed off after the treatment. Clients tend to experience a feeling of irritation or slight stinging during a treatment.

What happens after treatment?
Clients experience a mild sunburn sensation for one to two hours after the treatment. Redness and swelling will vary depending upon your skin and the treatment. Swelling generally resolves in two to three days. The skin will be dry and flaking (similar to after a sunburn) for about one week. This is due to the old skin being exfoliated and new fresh skin being formed.

Sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, must be used at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during the healing phase and for several months after treatment. Everyone is different and some clients return to normal activity the same day while others may require a little more time off.
