Sculptra - Fillers and Injectables

Sculptra is an injectable fruit acid derivative that is used to correct depressions or concave areas of the skin due to tissue volume loss. Typical areas that can be corrected are the hollowing of the cheeks or temples, the cheekbone, brow areas and the deep folds around the upper mouth region. Sculptra has also been used to fill in depressed areas from acne or mechanical injuries.

Sculptra is a unique 'filler' that is somewhat different from traditional fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm. It is composed of microscopic poly-L-lactic acid particles that stimulate our body to form its own new collagen. This collagen can last up to 2-3 years before being reabsorbed. The Sculptra itself is biocompatible and biodegradable and in fact is made of the same material as dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants that have been in use for over 30 years. Since the Sculptra acts by stimulating renewal of your own tissue, it can take up to 8 weeks after each treatment to see the results. Generally 2-3 treatments are required to get the best results.

Side effects with Sculptra injections can include bruising at the injection site as well as some tenderness, swelling or pain. These generally disappear within several weeks. Small bumps can be felt but not seen under the skin in a small number of people.

Most people are extremely happy with the smooth contoured; long lasting correction that results from professionally administered Sculptra injections.
