Eliminate Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis), Facial Tics and Spasms, and Migraine Headaches
Therapeutic injectables can be used to treat conditions such as excessive sweating, facial spasms and migraine headaches.
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) - Injections into the underarms, hands, feet and face block impulses that cause the sweat glands to produce sweat. In a clinical study involving 240 patients with excessive underarm sweating, 95% responded to the treatment with an average reduction in sweating of 83% in one week. Most people will have 9-12 months relief, from their excess sweating, with one treatment.
Facial tics and spasms - Therapeutic injections can give relief from annoying involuntary movements.
Migraine headaches - Clinical studies have demonstrated that therapeutic injections can reduce the severity or frequency of tension or migraine headaches. Headaches can disappear or be reduced in severity for months.
Many medical plans help cover part or all of the cost, for these types of treatments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Cosmetic Injectables safe?
Yes, it is a safe, predictable medication that has been FDA approved and used for over 20 years in both adults and children for both medical and cosmetic conditions. FDA approval means the product has undergone rigorous testing for safety and efficacy before being allowed to come to market.
What areas can be treated by injections?
Treatments can be performed in a number of locations including your forehead, between your brows, around lips, eye area, smile lines, neck, chest and chin.
How long do the effects of a the treatment last?
A treatment usually lasts three to four months, at which time another injection is required. After several treatments the frequency and amount needed may decrease.
How often will I have to get treatments?
With repeated motions, all muscles get stronger, even facial muscles. These muscles get strong enough to bend and crease the skin, resulting in shallow and deep wrinkles. The injections allow the facial muscles to rest and return to their normal size where they give expressions, but do not cause wrinkles. If the initial series of treatments is done at the prescribed intervals of 3-4 months, then often the amount and frequency of future treatments can be decreased significantly.
What is a treatment like?
Procedures are fast, simple, and minimally invasive. No anesthesia is required. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine needle directly into the area being treated. Discomfort is minimal, brief and is often compared to momentary mosquito bite. Once complete there is usually no discomfort. Most people return directly to normal activity following treatment. There is a slight chance of bruising which can be camouflaged with make-up.
Will my face have a frozen or plastic appearance?
No. Dr. Goldhar tries to achieve a natural, rested appearance that can still display expression. It takes years to learn how to achieve balance in the facial muscles. Dr. Goldhar has been injecting for over 10 years and has performed over 5,000 treatments.
How does this injectable work?
Normally, a nerve sends a chemical messenger (acetylcholine) to a muscle to contract. It prevents the release of this messenger which temporarily stops the muscle from contracting for about three months. Both the nerve and muscle are not affected, the injection simply relaxes the muscle for a period of time. (3-4 months)
